Museum Garments: Brand Story, Key Pieces and Size Guide
A Parisian label born in 2022, Museum Garments remakes archive pieces of the men's wardrobe: the Deck Sweater, French Military Pants, A-2 and Car Coat. Brand story, manufacturing and official size charts to choose your size.
Museum Garments is a Parisian menswear label born in 2022. Its idea is simple: take the pieces of the men's wardrobe that have stood the test of time, from the US Navy deck sweater to the French Foreign Legion trouser, and remake them with carefully chosen fabrics and present-day proportions. This guide covers the brand, how it makes its clothes, the pieces we have selected and, above all, how they fit, based on the official size charts published by Museum Garments. The full selection is in the Museum Garments collection, in store in Rennes and online.

Museum Garments: a Parisian label born in 2022
Museum Garments was founded in Paris in 2022 within suuupply, the Parisian shop that presents it as a label born in-house. The brand describes itself as inspired by the men's wardrobe pieces that have stood the test of time, linking the excellence of the past with the creativity and values of today.
The name sums up the approach. For the brand, Museum Garments stands for a pursuit of meaning, craftsmanship and curiosity about what we wear: each style starts from an identifiable archive garment, military, naval, athletic or utilitarian, and reworks it rather than copying it.
How Museum Garments makes its clothes
The brand chooses its workshops and fabrics first for their technical specialism. It says it works with factories in Italy, Portugal, France, the UK, Eastern Europe and Turkey, and sources its fabrics from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, the UK and Japan.
On impact, Museum Garments lists four commitments: natural, traceable materials, preferably from Europe; deadstock or recycled fabrics whenever possible; close stock monitoring to avoid overproduction; and garments designed to last, with the idea of buying less and better.
The labels on the pieces we sell show that specialist-workshop logic clearly:
| Piece | Fabric | Made in |
|---|---|---|
| Deck Sweater | RWS-certified merino lambswool (Australia), spun by Z. Hinchliffe & Sons (UK) | Portugal |
| French Military Pants | Virgin wool flannel or gabardine, Italian fabric | Moldova |
| A-2 Military Jacket | Compact cotton sateen, 395 g/m², Spanish fabric | Lithuania |
| Car Coat Raglan | Undyed virgin wool cloth, 500 g/m², Portuguese fabric | Moldova |
| Exhibition Jacket | Virgin wool flannel, 260 g/m², Italian fabric | Ukraine |
| Flight Jacket | Smooth cowhide (Turkish leather and tannery) | Turkey |
A single pair of trousers can therefore combine an Italian fabric with manufacturing in Moldova: what the brand puts forward is the right workshop for each type of garment, not a single country.
Museum Garments pieces and the originals behind them
Each style refers to an archive garment that the brand names on its own product pages.
Knitwear: the Deck Sweater, the Sailor Sweater and more
The Deck Sweater is inspired by the deck sweaters worn by the US Navy during the Second World War. It is knitted in 4-ply fisherman's rib from first-shearing merino lambswool, with a wide crew neck and wide ribbing with irregular ribs. The Sailor Sweater is derived from it: same knit, same yarn, but with a generous zip collar that can be worn closed for warmth or open and folded down.
Around these two styles, the brand offers more knitwear: the Alpaca Sweater in baby alpaca, with a slightly fluffy texture; the Recycled Cashmere Jumper in recycled and virgin cashmere, knitted from three strands; the Raglan Athletic Sweater, inspired by vintage collegiate wear, and the Raglan Zipped Polo, a nod to archive sportswear, both in RWS-certified extra-fine merino and organic cotton, with raglan sleeves and ribbed sides. All the knitwear is in our knitwear category.

Trousers: the French Military Pants and the Off-Duty Chino
The French Military Pants are based on French Foreign Legion trousers from the 1950s. The brand describes a straight, wide-leg cut with double pleats and a front crease, side welt pockets, buttoned flap back pockets, a button fly and lining down to the knee. We carry them in dark brown virgin wool flannel, in black gabardine and in anthracite grey melange gabardine.
The Off-Duty Chino also starts from military archetypes, in a more casual register: generous proportions and a garment-dyed cotton twill with a dry handle that patinates over time.

Jackets and coats
The A-2 Military Jacket reinterprets the A-2 military jacket: zip and button fastening, adjustable waist, rib trims with zigzag stitching and a flap chest pocket. The Flight Jacket starts from the G-1 issued to US naval aviators during the Second World War, here in smooth leather with a removable shearling collar. The Car Coat Raglan takes the traditional car coat, with raglan sleeves and a loose cut, in a wool cloth left undyed, so in the natural colour of the fibre. Finally, the Exhibition Jacket is described by the brand as its signature jacket: boxy silhouette, full padding, quilted interior and a two-way zip.

How does Museum Garments fit?
Good news: for almost all its pieces, Museum Garments recommends taking your usual size. Each style states its fit (boxy, relaxed, loose or straight) and that is what creates the volume, not sizing up. There is one exception in our selection: for the A-2 Military Jacket, which has a loose fit, the brand suggests your usual size or one size down for a more fitted look.
The charts below are those published by the brand. They are garment measurements taken flat, in centimetres, not body measurements. The flat width ("half chest" at Museum Garments) is measured from armpit to armpit; the easiest way to use it is to compare it with a jumper or jacket you like, laid flat in the same way.
Knitwear, shirt and T-shirt
Flat width / length, in cm.
| Style | Fit | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deck Sweater, Sailor Sweater | boxy | 55 / 62 | 57 / 64 | 59 / 66 | 61 / 68 |
| Alpaca Sweater | boxy | 56 / 61 | 58 / 63 | 60 / 65 | 62 / 67 |
| Recycled Cashmere Jumper | relaxed | 52 / 64 | 54 / 66 | 56 / 68 | 58 / 70 |
| Raglan Athletic Sweater, Raglan Zipped Polo | relaxed | 52 / 61 | 54 / 63 | 56 / 65 | 58 / 67 |
| Dad's Shirt | relaxed | 61.5 / 73.5 | 63.5 / 75 | 65.5 / 76.5 | 67.5 / 78 |
| Faded Athletic T-shirt | boxy | 50 / 66 | 52 / 68 | 54 / 70 | 56 / 72 |
The Deck Sweater and the Sailor Sweater share exactly the same chart. The Recycled Cashmere Jumper and the two Raglan styles are narrower (52 cm in S against 55 cm for the Deck): that is the difference between a boxy and a relaxed fit. The cashmere is, however, longer than the Deck (66 cm against 64 cm in M). Note that the Alpaca Sweater starts at XS at the brand: its S measures 56 cm across, 1 cm more than the Deck Sweater S.
Jackets and coat
Flat width / length, in cm.
| Style | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A-2 Military Jacket | 61.5 / 69.5 | 63.5 / 71 | 65.5 / 72.5 | 67.5 / 74 |
| Exhibition Jacket | 61 / 65 | 63 / 66.5 | 65 / 68 | 67 / 69.5 |
| Flight Jacket | 58.5 / 57 | 60.5 / 57.5 | 62.5 / 58 | 64.5 / 58.5 |
| Car Coat Raglan (46 = S, 48 = M, 50 = L, 52 = XL) | 58 / 110.5 | 60 / 111 | 62 / 111.5 | 64 / 112 |
The Flight Jacket is the shortest piece in the selection (57.5 cm long in M): it is a blouson that stops at the waist, with a ribbed leather waistband and cuffs. The Car Coat Raglan comes in numbered sizes; the brand matches 46 to S, 48 to M, 50 to L and 52 to XL. We carry it in 46, 48 and 50.
Trousers
The French Military Pants are also taken in your usual size. The brand specifies a normal waist and states that size 40 corresponds to a Medium. The figure in brackets is the one the brand shows next to each size. Waist measurements are given flat: the width of the waistband laid flat, to compare with a pair of trousers that fits you.
| Size | Half waist (flat) | Inseam | Length | Leg opening (flat) | Front rise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 38 (46) | 40.5 cm | 76.5 cm | 105.7 cm | 23.9 cm | 28.5 cm |
| 40 (48) | 42.5 cm | 76.5 cm | 106.2 cm | 24.5 cm | 28.9 cm |
| 42 (50) | 44.5 cm | 76.5 cm | 106.7 cm | 25.1 cm | 29.3 cm |
| 44 (52) | 46.5 cm | 76.5 cm | 107.2 cm | 25.7 cm | 29.7 cm |
Off-Duty Chino (relaxed straight fit, usual size):
| Size | Half waist (flat) | Length | Front rise | Thigh width | Leg opening (flat) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28 | 40.5 cm | 105 cm | 35.4 cm | 34.5 cm | 23.4 cm |
| 30 | 43 cm | 105.5 cm | 36 cm | 36 cm | 24 cm |
| 32 | 45.5 cm | 106 cm | 36.6 cm | 37.5 cm | 24.6 cm |
| 34 | 48 cm | 106.5 cm | 37.2 cm | 39 cm | 25.2 cm |
Both trousers have almost the same length and leg opening, but not the same construction: the French Military Pants have a shorter rise (28.9 cm in size 40) than the Off-Duty Chino (36 cm in size 30). With its shorter rise, the military trouser sits lower at the waist than the chino.
How to wear Museum Garments
The pieces are designed to work together, in a palette of browns, greys, navy and ecru. A few simple combinations from our selection:
- a navy Deck Sweater with the brown flannel French Military Pants, and the Car Coat Raglan over the top when it is cold;
- the sage Dad's Shirt, worn open over the Faded Athletic T-shirt, with the Off-Duty Chino;
- the grey flannel Exhibition Jacket over the Raglan Athletic Sweater, with the French Military Pants in anthracite gabardine;
- the dark green A-2 Military Jacket with the black French Military Pants and a charcoal Deck Sweater.
