Diemme: Which Model Should You Choose? Roccia Vet, Movida or Modica

Roccia Vet, Movida, Modica: the three Diemme families sold at AURA, compared using the brand's official product pages. Height, upper, lining, Eurosole or Vibram sole, care, size chart and what the brand does not publish.

Diemme Roccia Vet Black Nappa vue de profil

At AURA, Diemme is represented by three families that have little in common beyond their origin: the Roccia Vet, a high-top boot; the Movida, a low shoe that Diemme describes as an approach shoe; and the Modica, which the brand presents as a sneaker. This guide compares them using Diemme's official product pages and AURA's own: height, upper, lining, sole, intended use, manufacturing and sizes. It also flags what Diemme does not publish, such as the weight or width of each model. The full selection is in the Diemme collection.

In short

  • High-top boot: the Roccia Vet, listed by Diemme among its hiking boots.
  • Low shoe with an outdoor look: the Movida, an approach shoe according to Diemme, on a Vibram RGS Hiker sole.
  • Sneaker silhouette: the Modica, with a tweed upper and a Vibram sole.
  • The widest choice of materials: the Roccia Vet, offered in nappa, suede and as the Gomma version.
  • Sizing: one Diemme size chart for every model, with no model-specific advice published.

Roccia Vet, Movida or Modica: what are the differences?

Diemme Roccia Vet: the hiking boot of the selection

Diemme lists the Roccia Vet among its hiking boots. The brand describes it as inspired by traditional Italian hiking boots, updated with a lightweight sole so it can be worn in the mountains and in town, with a padded lining and ankle support. It points out that "Roccia" means "rock" in Italian. The main reference at AURA is the Roccia Vet Black Nappa: nappa leather upper, cow leather lining, Eurosole sole. It comes with an extra set of laces, to switch between neutral and contrast laces. At AURA it is available from 40 to 45. Diemme makes it from 40 to 47.

Roccia Vet: the older versions still available at AURA

The Roccia Vet Black Nappa is the current reference in the selection, documented by Diemme's page for that exact reference. A few older Roccia Vet versions, in suede and as the Gomma, remain available at AURA in some sizes. They come from earlier seasons, and their specifications may differ from the versions Diemme currently documents under similar names. We therefore do not use them to compare soles, linings or construction until these points have been checked on the pairs themselves or on a supplier sheet matching their exact reference.

What certainly changes between these versions is the upper: smooth nappa leather, suede, or leather with rubber protection on the Gomma. Care follows the material: for nappa, Diemme recommends cleaning with soapy water, then cream, wax or grease; for suede, a dry brush and a waterproofing spray. Diemme publishes no difference in fit between Roccia Vet versions.

Diemme Movida: what changes compared with the Roccia Vet

Diemme describes the Movida as a classic approach-shoe silhouette, reintroduced in 2019 and now a staple of the brand. An approach shoe is a low shoe designed for the walk to the foot of a climb or a summit. Diemme presents it as comfortable and dependable for daily errands as well as longer walks. It is made in suede, with a cow leather lining, a Vibram RGS Hiker sole and a rubber toe cap. At AURA the Movida comes in two colours that share the same specifications: Black Suede and Sesame Suede. Only the shade and the laces change: Diemme lists Black/Purple and tonal laces for the black pair, Black/Violet and tonal laces for the Sesame. Each pair comes with an extra set of laces.

The two soles do not come from the same maker: the Movida sits on a Vibram sole, the RGS Hiker; the Roccia Vet Black Nappa sits on a Eurosole, which Diemme presents as a lightweight sole. Diemme does not detail their composition.

Diemme Modica: the closest thing to a sneaker

Diemme presents the Modica as a sneaker that expresses the brand's DNA, while listing it in the same category as its low hikers. Its upper is tweed. A tumbled nubuck leather rand is stitched to the upper and continues into the welt, which is fully wrapped in the same leather. The sole combines this leather-wrapped welt, a slim tonal sculpted midsole and a Vibram outsole, the 2900 Acqua according to the specifications. Inside, Diemme fits its leather-covered latex footbed. The pair comes with two sets of laces, one in suede and one in polyester.

The information Diemme publishes about the lining is not consistent: the product text mentions cotton, while the specifications list cow leather. We therefore do not state a lining composition until this point is confirmed. As for the upper, AURA's product page currently lists the fabric as Harris Tweed, while Diemme simply describes it as tweed. At AURA the Modica comes in Anthracite. Diemme makes it in whole sizes from 40 to 47.

Movida or Modica?

These are the two low models. The Movida is a suede approach shoe, protected at the front by a rubber toe cap, on a Vibram RGS Hiker sole. The Modica is a tweed sneaker, with a nubuck rand and a leather-wrapped welt, on a Vibram 2900 Acqua sole. Care differs too: Diemme points to suede care for the Movida and canvas care for the Modica (dry brush, soap on a soft brush, air dry). Compared with the Roccia Vet, the Modica shares only the brand and where it is made: height, sole and upper are all different.

Diemme does not state how the Roccia Vet and the Movida are constructed, nor whether these models can be resoled.

How does Diemme fit?

Diemme publishes a single size chart for its whole collection and states that it uses the standard EU shoe size system. The brand adds that some sizes vary because of insoles, padding and other factors, that its chart is only a general guide, and points to an online recommendation tool (Fit Predictor) for the recommended size on each style. It also says that its men's and women's sizes follow the same system.

  • Roccia Vet: no sizing advice published specifically for this model. Diemme lists padding among the factors that make sizes vary, and the Roccia Vet has a padded lining.
  • Movida: no specific sizing advice published.
  • Modica: no specific sizing advice published. Whole sizes only at Diemme.

Diemme does not state a width (narrow, regular, wide) or a last for these models either, so we do not rank them against each other on that point.

Sock thickness changes the volume available inside the shoe, especially in a boot with a padded lining such as the Roccia Vet.

Which Diemme model should you choose?

For a high-top boot

The Roccia Vet, the only boot in the selection, which Diemme designs for the mountains as well as town. In black nappa for a smooth leather; suede versions need specific care.

For a low shoe with an outdoor look

The Movida, an approach shoe on a Vibram RGS Hiker sole, in black or Sesame.

For a sneaker silhouette

The Modica, the only one Diemme presents as a sneaker, with a tweed upper and a Vibram sole.

Diemme: made in the Veneto

Diemme draws on the hiking and work boot heritage of its home region, at the foot of the Dolomites. The brand says it makes all its products under one roof, at its family factory in Onè di Fonte, in the Veneto, in a region it describes as the spiritual home of handmade outdoor footwear. Every pair is hand-crafted there in limited runs. The Roccia Vet page, however, refers to manufacture in Montebelluna, while the other pages and the brand's About page cite the Onè di Fonte factory: the two towns are close to each other, but Diemme does not say what is done at each site. That heritage gave rise to the Roccia Vet, inspired by traditional Italian hiking boots, and the Movida, an approach-shoe silhouette reintroduced in 2019. The Modica borrows some of its elements, such as the leather rand and welt, for a sneaker silhouette.
